Is your school accredited?

Gateway Virtual Academy, LLC. is a private school accredited through Advanced offering digital learning, worldwide.

GVA recently hosted an External Review in April, 2019 and was awarded accreditation in June, 2019. Although accreditation is not mandated, GVA made the decision to become accredited through a rigorous quality assurance process and achieved distinction on our first review, Alhamdulilah.

Will my child get a diploma upon completion?

Yes, upon graduation students will receive an accredited diploma.

How much is tuition?

New Families

Tuition is due monthly in the amount of $300

If you are enrolling more than one child, please note the tuition fee below:

  • For the second child $275
  • For the third child $250
  • For the fourth child $200
  • For the fifth (or more) child $175

Returning Families 

  • For the second child $200
  • For the third child $175
  • For the fourth child $150

Does my child have to take all of the classes?
Students in grades 2 – 8 may opt out of a course, however tuition is required in full. These classes should be taken at another institution, if not through GVA. In order for your child to be promoted you will be required to submit record of the course completion. Additionally, we will administer a placement test in this subject in order to promote them in all four subject areas.

High school students may also opt out of a course, however tuition is required in full. It is very important to note that they will still be required to take the required courses for graduation (see our high school graduation requirements webpage). These courses can be taken at another institute.

What is the digital text fee?
The digital text fee is a paid at the beginning of the year upon enrollment of US$200 per student. This fee covers the cost of the student’s digital text/curriculum and all accounts that will be provided by the school. This fee is non-refundable after two weeks of payment.
I cannot pay the digital text fee right now - can I still register?

Yes, you can still register your child(ren). However, you will need to request an extension with the tuition department, at:

What courses do you offer?
We offer four(4) core subjects which all students are required to take (through GVA or elsewhere): Math, Language Arts, Social Studies and Science. We also offer Islamiyyah courses and self-paced elective courses in foreign languages, arts, p.e. computer science and more.
What Islamic courses do you offer?
We currently offer the following Islamiyyah courses: Iqra al-Qu’ran (Qaa’idah Nooraniyah), Tajweed, Hifz (Qur’an memorization) and Arabic Language (3 levels).
Are elective courses included in the tuition?
There is no additional tuition cost to be paid for the first elective course; however, there will be an additional $50 monthly fee ​if enrolling in ​a second Islamiyyah elective course.​

Will my child have to be on camera?

Students in grades 2 – 5 are required to be on camera when instructed to by their teacher.

Are teachers on the camera during live classes?

Teachers maybe on camera occasionally per the needs of our students.

Is there an age limit to register my child?
There is no age limit and we do not conduct entry interviews, however, we expect students to be able to have basic knowledge of the computer, communicate with their teacher and peers. We also encourage parents to sit with their child until he/she is fully able to navigate on his/her own during the live sessions with the teacher.
Do I need to purchase books and materials?
All coursework is completed online. You do have the option to print, scan and upload work to be graded. However, no physical books will be mailed to you.

You will be required to purchase additional material for projects and class assignments. A full list can be found in the School Supply list.

What are the school days and hours?
Live classes are held Sun-Thu 7:30-11:15 a.m. CST for Grades 2-5 and 7:00-11:30 a.m. CST. for Grades 6-12 for the core subjects.
When are Islamiyyah classes held?

Islamiyyah classes are usually held between 11:20 am – 1:30 pm, CST, 3 days out of the week. Please refer to your child’s classroom schedule for more details.

I am unable to get a transcript/report card or my child was previously homeschooled - what can be done?
If your child was previously home schooled, then we will need to administer a placement test for Math and Language Arts to ensure that they are placed in the most appropriate grade. If you have more questions about this, please send us an email.
I would like to wait a while before I register - can I register late?
Gateway Virtual Academy has an enrollment cap on the amount of students that will be enrolled per class. The early registration period begins April 23 through June 29, 2018. Since we have to cater for our returning students and their siblings, new students will be selected for enrollment based on availability. We encourage you not to wait until the last minute to register!
What documents do I need to provide?

You will need a scanned copy of the student’s proof of birth and a transcript or report card from the previous school year. If your child was home schooled or you are unable to provide the required academic documents he/she will be required to take a placement test.

What are the requirements for registering my child?

Gateway Virtual Academy shall not limit admission to students on the basis of intellectual ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, athletic ability, disability, race, creed, national origin, religion, or ancestry.

However, all new students must be fluent in the English language, read at the grade level they are enrolling in and possess basic computer skills.

What is a Learning Coach?
Learning Coaches are usually the student’s parent or another responsible adult who are dedicated to making sure their child receives a quality education. He/She will be will be the primary contact for all correspondence related to the student’s academic performance, important updates and emergencies.
Does the Learning Coach need to be present?
The Learning Coach should be present or in close proximity during class time for students enrolled in elementary school (Grades 2-5).

The Learning Coach may be required to sit with the student during the first few weeks of school while the student gets acclimated with the virtual learning experience and programs.

What does the Learning Coach have to do?
The Learning Coach is responsible for ensuring their student is on track with assignments and coursework as well as communicating with their teachers throughout the school year. Learning Coaches play an active role, especially in the early grades.
When is the school break?

We have several short breaks throughout the school year. Please see our school calendar, via the “calendar” tab, of the website. 

Are you registered in the state of Missouri ?
Missouri does not regulate private schools and have set no requirements for “private” schools other than licensing. However, we are licensed with the state as an online school.  To learn more contact the Missouri Department of Education at: 573-751-4212 .
Do I need to register as a home schooling parent in my state?

No, we are a private school. Therefore you will not need to register your child.
